It's Time To Go To Bed! #positivismo

I have lots of great childhood memories and some of the best ones are from my time spent in México, with my abuelita. In the late evening we would sit on her patio and talk about everything, with a warm drink in our hands. My mug was always filled with warm milk and mi abueilta alternated between hot chocolate (made with milk, of course!) and café con leche. I loved listening to her childhood stories and she dished out the best advice on everything!  Our talks taught me so much about Mexican history too - despite lacking formal education, she knew so much on the topic, from experience!

Milk LogoIt’s because of these memories that I smile when my kids ask for a glass of milk at bedtime. I get nostalgic, I think about mi abuelita and our time together on her patio in México.  I know it's a little silly, but certain smells, foods and drinks can summon wonderful memories - milk does this for me!

I also know that when my kids (ages 8, 6, 4 and 1.5) have a glass of milk before bed they sleep better. It’s their signal that bedtime has arrived - they know the routine - that drinking their glass of milk is the last item of the day before they head off to bed. Those of us with children know that getting them to bed on time helps make for more awake and rested children in the morning – and who doesn’t like that? I sure do!  See, my kids are ready for bed, having their glass of milk first! I have to admit that they don't share my childhood love of warm milk - they prefer their milk icy cold!  However, my youngest child (not pictured here, he was sleeping, yay!) loves his warm milk in his bottle before bed....he doses off every time!

Kids Drinking Milk

You can tune in every night between 7-9 pm PT on Telemundo and Univision to watch the California Milk Board’s TV spot, “Ya es hora de ir a la cama.” It's a super cute reminder for parents and children that it’s time to go to bed! You can also check out the YouTube Link and find a collection of bedtime stories in Spanish and English at www.otroscuentos.com.
